The King's Arms and The Black Bull were once owned by the same landlord and were favourite haunts of Branwell Brontë... the black sheep of the famous literary family.
A visual-artist, public speaker and writer; Branwell's talents are often overlooked.
Bizarrely, not only was Branwell a drug addict and an alcoholic ... he also became the head of the Haworth Village Temperance Society !
The King's Arms is reputed to be haunted; having served for many years as both the village mortuary and slaughterhouse! It sits at the entrance to Church Street, which takes the visitor past the church and schoolrooms to the Brontë Parsonage.
The Black Bull is also believed to be haunted and has featured in the
'Most Haunted' television series.

This scene, © Ian Palmer 2008, beautifully captures the magnificent church of 'St Michael and all the Angels' at the heart of Haworth.
This is the schoolroom where all three Brontë sisters taught.
The steep, cobbled Main Street.
The moors above the village.
